The Joint Union of the Staff of the Police Service Commission (PSC) has dismissed recent allegations made by the Nigeria Police Force regarding irregularities and corruption in the 2022 Constable Recruitment Process.

In a press release signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Police claimed the recruitment process was marred by irregularities. The PSC, however, refuted these allegations, labeling the claims as diversionary tactics and an affront to the Nigerian Constitution and a Supreme Court judgment affirming the PSC’s authority over police appointments.

“The Commission stands firmly by the integrity of the JAMB CBT results used in the recruitment process,” the PSC Union asserted. They emphasized that a recruitment board, which included senior police officials and representatives from various stakeholders, endorsed the list of successful candidates after thorough deliberations.

Highlighting past instances of alleged interference, the Union recalled how the Police had previously submitted a separate list of candidates without the Board’s knowledge, aiming to force it through. This pattern, according to the PSC, points to hidden interests and corrupt tendencies within the Police hierarchy.

The PSC Union called for a forensic audit of the JAMB CBT results to validate the authenticity of the recruitment process. They also invited independent investigations into any financial dealings or corrupt practices as alleged by the Police.

Reiterating its constitutional mandate, the PSC Union vowed not to succumb to blackmail or threats, asserting its commitment to transparency and accountability in the recruitment of qualified Nigerians into the Police Force.

The dispute underscores the ongoing power struggle between the PSC and the Nigeria Police Force over recruitment authority, a conflict that has significant implications for the integrity and credibility of the nation’s law enforcement agencies.

  1. Why is the Police struggling over a Constitutional matter that is clearly out of their hands as affirmed by the highest court in the land, the Supreme Court? Those involved should be charged for Court contempt to dissuade others.
