The Police Service Commission has renamed its Chairman’s conference hall in honour of its late chairman and former Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Commission’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, said the hall, located on the sixth floor of the PSC headquarters in Abuja, will now be known as the Solomon Arase Hall.

Arase, who served as the 18th Inspector General of Police between April 2015 and June 2016, was appointed Chairman of the Commission in 2024.

He died on August 31, 2025, at Cedarcrest Hospital, Abuja, aged 69.

At a night of tribute held on Wednesday, PSC Chairman DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), represented by the Director of Human Resource Management, Aminu Malumfashi, described Arase as “a gentleman of rare courage and intellect,” noting that he was a distinguished officer, scholar and reformer.

According to the Commission, funeral rites will continue on Friday with a requiem mass at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Maitama, Abuja, followed by a lying in state at his residence.

His remains will then be flown to Benin, Edo State, where a PSC delegation will attend the final rites.

Arase will be laid to rest at his Benin residence on Friday, October 3.
