Protests in Katsina over Bandits Attacks

Malik Yahya/

Katsina youths this morning continued their protest against incessant attacks on their communities by suspected bandits.

The youths in their hundreds had earlier yesterday protested the attacks and the attendant killings and abductions.

NewsmakersNG learnt that after yesterday’s protest, the bandits struck overnight killing one person in one of the surrounding villages.

The protesting youths blocked the ever busy Kankara-Katsina road around Yantumaki village in Danmusa Local Government Area of the state.

They also reportedly set fire on the road while turning back motorists and other road users from passing through their village.

Motorists were forced to abandon the route to access Katsina town or Gusau in Zamfara State due to the protests.

Recent attacks included the abduction of a health worker, Mansir Yusuf, and his daughter from one of the communities.

Also, last week, the district head of the area, Atiku Maidabino, was killed by unidentified gunmen at his palace.
