The police in Lagos have confirmed that one of their officers was hacked to death by commercial motorcycle riders at the Pen Cinema area of Lagos where his team was sent to evacuate a truck from an accident scene.
According to the Lagos State police spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the truck driver had killed the motorcycle rider who ran into the trailer at WEMPCO Junction, Mobil Road, Pen Cinema, Agege in the early hours of today.
Hundeyin stated: “Based on the report, a patrol team was mobilized to the scene. On arrival, the team met a large number of motorcycle riders gathered.
“The patrol team in the process of evacuating the truck away from the scene came under attack by the motorcycle riders who insisted on torching the truck. As a result, one ASP ‘M’ aged 46 years was injured on the head, and he died on the spot while the truck driver escaped. “The corpses have been evacuated to the Mainland General Hospital morgue, Yaba for autopsy.
“Meanwhile, 5 suspects have been arrested and a manhunt launched for other fleeing suspects.”
