The Prison Rehabilitation and Law Abiding Organisation (PRALARG) International has announced plans to launch a Multipurpose Cooperative Society aimed at strengthening its empowerment drive and improving the socio-economic wellbeing of its members and the wider society.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Chief Executive Officer of PRALARG International, Comrade Pralagian Olayemi Akinwunmi, disclosed that registered members of the organisation would be the first beneficiaries when the cooperative takes off.
According to him, the initiative is designed as a non-interest loan cooperative, providing members with access to soft loans to support small businesses, entrepreneurship, skills acquisition and other productive ventures.
“PRALARG International wishes to inform the general public, stakeholders and all registered members of its intention to launch a Multipurpose Cooperative Society aimed at deepening our empowerment objectives and enhancing the socio-economic wellbeing of individuals and communities,” Akinwunmi said.
He explained that the cooperative would initially focus on empowering PRALARG members, adding that the initiative aligns with the organisation’s long-standing commitment to human dignity, rehabilitation and social justice.
The PRALARG CEO further revealed that the empowerment programme would be progressively expanded to cover inmates and members of the general public as part of the organisation’s holistic approach to uplifting the downtrodden and promoting self-reliance.
“Beyond our members, PRALARG International is also rolling out broader empowerment plans for inmates and the general public. These programmes will be implemented in phases to ensure sustainability and impact,” he stated.
Akinwunmi described the establishment of the cooperative society as a significant milestone in PRALARG International’s mission to promote empowerment beyond handouts, enabling beneficiaries to become self-reliant, economically active and socially responsible.
He added that details on membership registration, operational guidelines and the official launch date would be communicated through appropriate channels in due course.
