A policeman attached to the Rivers State COVID-19 Task Force who shot dead a policewoman in the state, yesterday, has been arrested.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Joseph Mukan, who confirmed the development, said the errant policeman would be subjected to orderly room trial and dismissed from the force if found guilty.
He disclosed that the policeman had no logical explanation for his action.
Mukan said, “There is no satisfactory explanation from the man who did the shooting. He has been arrested, disarmed and he is undergoing orderly room trial now. He may likely be dismissed and charged to court.”
The incident happened at about 5pm at Eneka in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
NewsmakersNG learnt that the policewoman who was controlling traffic in the area tried to pacify the task force from harassing some traders along the road.
In the process, the policeman had allegedly threatened to shoot one of the traders for resisting arrest before the bullet went off and hit the policewoman.
The yet-to-be-identified policewoman reportedly slumped and died on the spot as the bullet hit her in the chest.
