Policeman who Beat up Student for Using iPhone in Viral Video Arrested

The police have confirmed the arrest of a sergeant, who was seen in a viral video brutalising a student for owning an iPhone.

The Delta State Command revealed this in a statement issued via the verified Twitter handle of the police.

The statement says the unnamed policeman is undergoing an orderly room trial.

The statement reads: “The commissioner of Police Delta State Command has confirmed that the police SGT reported to have harrassed and embarrassed an innocent student is now in police custody.

“Also, orderly trial has commenced and the preceding will bring out appropriate disciplinary action on him.

“The Force wishes to state that such behavioural pattern is not a true reflection of Nigeria Police Force especially under the leadership of Inspector General of Police, Ag. IGP MA Adamu.”

The sergeant attached to the Police Mobile Force was shown in the video beating up the victim, said to be a student of Delta State University for owning an Apple iPhone valued at N200,000.

The video, which was recorded by Stephanie Oghalezino Raphael, showed the policeman accosting passengers in a commercial bus in the Okpe area of Delta State.

The policeman went on to question the male occupants of the vehicle and then asked one of them how much his phone costs and the student replied that it costs N200,000.

The visibly angry policeman began ranting that in his over 14 years in the Force, he had never used a phone that costs more than N15,000 and then accused the student of being a fraudster who uses female panties for money ritual.

The policeman thereafter asked the student to open the phone so that he could inspect its contents and at the same time began to hit him repeatedly at the back of the head.

The now enraged policeman then smashed the phone on the ground and asked the student to take his belongings from the bus as he would not be allowed to continue on the journey with other passengers.
