The police have announced the nationwide enforcement of Mandatory Third Party Insurance for all vehicle owners beginning February 1, 2025.
This move, directed by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, aims to bolster road safety and ensure compliance with essential insurance regulations.
In a press release issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police cautioned vehicle owners and operators against non-compliance.
Failure to present valid Third Party Insurance could lead to penalties, fines, or both, as stipulated by existing laws.
The directive mandates that all vehicle owners secure valid insurance coverage immediately to avoid embarrassment during enforcement.
Police officers across the country are empowered to conduct checks and impose penalties on defaulters.
The IGP has instructed State Commissioners of Police to ensure full compliance with the directive, emphasising that the initiative is essential for safeguarding lives and enhancing traffic safety.
The Nigeria Police Force called for public cooperation in achieving this critical safety measure.
