Police Smoke Out Bandits in Imo …Recover Weapons, Military Wears

The police in Imo have recovered one AK 47 rifle, two rounds of ammunition and military camouflage T-Shirt from two men identified as notorious armed robbers in the state.  

According to the police in a statement, the suspects were arrested in their hideout where officers recovered AK 47 rifle with Breech No. 0544 and double magazine containing two rounds of live ammunition and a bag containing military camouflage T-shirt.

The police statement says, “As part of the mandate given to the Imo state Police Command by the Inspector General of Police Ag. IGP Usman Alkali Baba psc+, NPM, fdc, to restore normalcy and apprehend all the recalcitrant criminal elements who are making lives of innocent people unbearable, the Imo State Police Command under the leadership of CP Abutu Yaro fdc, in continuation of its onslaught against vicious crimes being perpetrated by some unscrupulous elements in the state has succeeded in arresting two members of armed robbery syndicate who have been terrorizing the peace loving people of Ezibodo Community and its environ.

“The arrest was made on 11th May, 2021 by officers attached to Operation Puff Adder II, following an intelligence information received from members of the vigilante group of Eziobodo community about the presence of deadly armed criminals who specialized in armed robbery operations in the state and beyond.

“The officers quickly mobilized to the hideout. On arrival, they were engaged by the hoodlums, but the operatives responded promptly and dislodged the criminals. As a result, two members of the deadly gang were arrested while others scampered with possible various gunshot wounds.

“Exhibits recovered at the scene include, One AK 47 rifle with Breech No. 0544 and two magazines containing two rounds of live ammunition. Also, a bag containing Military Handkerchief and Military Camouflage T- Shirt were recovered at the same scene.

“On interrogation, both suspects confessed to be members of the deadly Armed Robbery Syndicate who have been carrying out bank robberies across the state and beyond. The suspects have also mentioned some of their partners in crime who are now on the radar of the police for possible arrest and prosecution. All the suspects are in State CID for discreet investigation.

“The Commissioner of Police while commending the police operatives and the vigilante for the marvellous job, enjoined other officers and good people of Imo State to emulate this act of patriotism, so that the aspirations of restoring a lasting peace and security in Imo State can be achieved.”
