Police Special Forces today celebrated the rescue of the in-law of President Muhammadu Buhari and District Head (Magajin Garin) at the President’s hometown, Daura, in Katsina State, Alhaji Musa Umar Daura two months after he was kidnapped by gunmen.
NewsmakersNG learnt that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Intelligence Response Team rescued Alhaji Umar who was kidnapped on May 1, 2019.
According to police authorities, IRT operatives, led By DCP Abba Kyari, working in line with the directives of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu, “conducted six weeks of unrelenting follow up together with OC SIB Kaduna State and OC SIB Niger State. High level Intelligence-led operations was conducted in Kaduna, Bauchi, Niger, Katsina and Kogi states which resulted in the arrest of 11 of the terrorist/kidnappers including the overall gang leader and rescue of the victim in Panshakara Area of Kano City on 2/9/19 by 0700hrs”.
The police said that one of the kidnappers was killed “during the Rescue Operation assisted by Kano State commissioner of police, DC Operations Kano State, ACP Operations, Kano State, OC SARS Kano State, PMF and other Police Units that assisted IRT In subduing and overpowering the kidnappers which enabled the successful rescue of the victim.
“Several AK47 Rifles and ammunition were recovered and several of the kidnappers arrested alive.”
