The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed a significant breakthrough in the rescue of all passengers abducted in the Otukpo kidnapping incident involving a Benue Links bus on April 15.

According to a statement signed by DCP Anthony Okon Placid, Force Public Relations Officer, the operation followed credible intelligence that led to coordinated clearance missions by operatives of the Benue State Police Command across the Amla Forest corridor and adjoining locations.

The police said the operation resulted in the safe recovery of the remaining 13 victims, bringing the total number of rescued passengers to 18.

Among those rescued were eight students who were travelling to Otukpo to sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

All rescued victims have undergone medical evaluation, are confirmed to be in stable condition, and will be reunited with their families after standard debriefing procedures.

The statement further disclosed that seven suspects were arrested during the operation, with three already positively identified as members of the kidnapping syndicate.

Investigations are ongoing to track down additional accomplices and dismantle the wider criminal network believed to be behind the attack.

Kidnapping incidents targeting road travellers have remained a persistent security challenge in parts of Nigeria, particularly along rural and forested corridors.

The Benue Links incident had sparked public concern due to the inclusion of students among the victims, prompting swift multi-unit police response.
