The Kano State Police Command has achieved a major breakthrough with the recovery of two stolen vehicles, leveraging the advanced Electronic Central Motor Registry (e-CMR) platform of the Nigeria Police Force.

According to a press release signed by SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, Police Public Relations Officer for the Kano State Command, the first case involved a Toyota Corolla 2014 model, reported stolen on January 1, 2025, in Abuja.

The complainant stated that two suspects, posing as buyers, requested a test drive at a Zuba car stand. During the drive, the suspects brandished a pistol and fled with the vehicle, its original documents, and keys.

In a separate incident on January 4, a Mercedes Benz C300 was stolen from outside Luxirian Event Center in Nassarawa GRA, Kano. The vehicle belonged to a Kano resident living on Hadejia Road.

Acting swiftly on the reports, Kano’s Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, assembled a team of detectives from the Anti-Car Theft Unit.

Using information from the e-CMR platform, the team tracked and recovered the stolen vehicles. The Toyota Corolla was found in Bauchi State, while the Mercedes Benz was recovered in Shagari Quarters, Kano, between January 10 and 15, 2025.

CP Dogo commended the detectives for their exemplary efforts and encouraged the public to take advantage of the e-CMR system to register their vehicles. “This platform is a valuable tool in fighting vehicle theft and ensuring the recovery of stolen property,” he said.

The public is urged to register their vehicles at cmris.npf.gov.ng and report suspicious activities to the police via the following hotlines: 08032419754, 08123821575, or 09029292926.

The press release reaffirms the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to using technology to combat crime and maintain public safety.
