Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have recovered a concealed firearm from a passenger travelling in a commercial bus along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, in what authorities describe as a clear demonstration of vigilance and professional policing.

The suspect, identified as Imoleayo Ibrahim, was travelling in a Mazda commercial bus intercepted during a routine stop-and-search operation by officers attached to the Federal Highway Patrol.

The vehicle, like many others on the busy corridor, showed no immediate sign of suspicion and could easily have been waved through.

However, acting on credible intelligence and guided by careful observation, the operatives singled out one passenger for further scrutiny.

A search of Ibrahim led to the discovery of a locally fabricated pistol hidden on his person, a find police say could have been missed without thoroughness and attention to detail.

The immediate recovery of the firearm led to his arrest, effectively disrupting what investigators believe was a planned robbery operation along the expressway.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed that the weapon was intended for use in highway robberies.

He also identified two accomplices, Ibrahim Najeem and Olamilekan, said to be involved in coordinating such attacks.

Police moved swiftly on the information, tracking down and arresting the named accomplices. All three suspects are now in custody as investigations continue to uncover the full scope of their activities.

The Oyo State Police Command said the operation highlights the importance of routine checks carried out with discipline and precision, noting that both the suspect and the vehicle might have escaped detection without the diligence of the officers involved.

Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Olugbenga, commended the operatives for their professionalism, stating that their actions prevented a potential security incident on one of the country’s busiest highways.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding road users and urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
