The police in Lagos revealed today that 232 stolen vehicles were recovered within January and February this year as they search for 31 others.

According to the state Commissioner of Police (CP) Hakeem Odumosu, 184 motorcycles and 10 tricycles were also recovered.

Addressing a press conference today, Odumosu gave a rundown of breakthroughs in criminal cases by his men so far this year.

According to Odumosu, efforts at enforcing laws and orders in Lagos since January 2021 paid off with the suppression of various criminal activities as well as traffic lawlessness by recalcitrant drivers, motorcyclists and hoodlums who have been causing mayhem and engaging in other criminal acts like cultism, armed robbery, land grabbing, gangsterism, hooliganism, sexual abuses and domestic violence.

While parading some of the suspects, Odumosu told reporters that his men arrested 234 armed robbers, 343 cultists, held 91 for murder, and recovered 232 stolen vehicles.

He said that the police also recovered 235 arms and 265 rounds of ammunition.

Murder cases stood at 91; 75 robberies were foiled, 31 vehicles still missing.

Odumosu said that the Lagos State police command was handling 91 cases of rape and defilement, as well as 127 gender-based cases.

He mentioned that 1592 hoodlums were raided, 532 suspects were arrested for traffic offences, and 2953 motorbikes were impounded for traffic offences.

The period also recorded 103 fatal accidents.

Also on record are 82 vehicles contravened for driving against traffic, 508 contravened for violating 12am-4am curfew, 22 clubs, bars raided and 997 persons arrested for Covid-19 related offences.
