Six police officers have been promoted for exemplary conducts in their duties.
They allegedly earned the promotion by making a recovery of N42billion and rejecting bribes of $21million and $12,900.
The Police Service Commission (PSC) named the officers as: assistant commissioners of police, Suleiman Abdul and Olusoji Akinbayo; Mu’awuyya Abubakar, a Superintendent of Police; Sunday Idowu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police; Eheziekia Abiona, an Assistant Superintendent of Police; and Ogunbiyi Agbabu, a police inspector.
The Head, Press and Public Relations at the PSC, Mr Ikechukwu Ani, said that the commission took the decision at its 19th meeting in Abuja.
According to him, Mr. Abdul, who is with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), recently recovered N42 billion for the Federal Government.
Messrs. Akinbayo and Idowu rejected a bribe of $21million and another $12,900 from one Samuel Wilberforce.
“The officers in spite of this huge inducement defied the temptation and arrested the pipeline vandals,” Ani said.
He added that their actions portrayed the Nigeria Police Force in good light as they exhibited professionalism, fearlessness and incorruptibility in the conduct of their assignment.
“The chairman of the Commission, Mike Okiro, is poised to enthrone honesty, responsibility and fear of God in the Nigeria Police Force,” he said.
