Two officers who have given the police their best shot over the years have been elevated today among others.
Mr Johnson Babatunde Kokumo, who made his mark fighting armed robbers in Ogun and Lagos states, is now a Commissioner of Police (CP) and Friday Toyin Ibadin, who fought pipeline vandals for years, is now a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).
The Police Service Commission (PSC) approved the promotion of 11 DCP to the substantive rank of CP today, while Ibadin emerged among his peers as the only Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) whose elevation to DCP was approved today.
A statement issued by Mr Ikechukwu Ani, Head, Press and Public Relations of the commission, says 12 Chief Superintendents of Police were also promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police, and 3,201 Assistant Superintendents of Police to Deputy Superintendents of Police.
Ani listed the new CPs as Johnson Babatunde Kokumo, Joseph Agaji, Gbemisola O. Akinpelu, Hakeem Busari and Adat Ududo.
He noted that the promotions were the highpoint of the commission’s plenary meeting held in Abuja.
He said that one ASP Emmanuel Aigbedion was elevated to the rank of Superintendent of Police, following an appeal based on court judgment.
“The newly promoted Commissioners of Police were before their promotion, subjected to an interactive session with the leadership of the Commission,” he said.
Others are; John Amadi, Undie Adie; Olugbenga Adeyanju, Patrick Ladul Garba; Aromeh Attabor and Augustine Ezechukwu.
Ani said that the Permanent Secretary to the Commission, Mr Musa Istifanus had conveyed the decisions of the Commission to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris for implementation.
He said, “The Chairman of the Commission, Dr Mike Mbama Okiro wishes the newly promoted officers success in their new positions.”
