The Nigeria Police plans to establish a broadcast station.
The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, disclosed this, on Thursday, in Lagos.
Idris told the management of Continental Broadcasting Service (owners of Television and Radio Continental) during a courtesy visit that the proposed station will help correct some of the wrong views the public have about the police.
Idris said: “We (police authorities) are planning to set up a police broadcasting station. We believe this will help us correct some of the wrong opinion people have about the police. A lot of times, the public is not fed the correct information about the police. And as we all know, perception is everything.”
The police boss, who arrived Lagos, on Thursday, ahead of a lecture he is billed to deliver today, also visited Governor Akinwunmi Ambode in his office.
The governor, in his welcome address, requested the establishment of two additional police area commands in the state to better tackle emerging security threats, especially kidnapping and ritual killings.
The governor wanted the new area commands to be sited in Ikorodu and Badagry areas of the state.
He said the state was prepared to provide the financial and material resources needed to set the two new police command centres.
Idris promised that the police hierarchy would give positive consideration to the governor’s request.
