Two persons claiming to be students of the University of Ibadan (UI) have been held, by the police in Oyo State, over alleged cultism.

The police also claimed that the suspects were involved in armed robbery.

The suspects were arrested by officers attached to the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) in the state.

The state Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr. Abiodun Odude, identified the suspects as 25-year-old Jones Shola Ogelekeme, a 400-level student of the Department of Geography, and one Folarin Joseph, 30, a 400-level student of Computer Science.

Odude described the suspects as notorious cultists belonging to the Supreme Eiye Confraternity, who have allegedly terrorised residents of Agbowo community near the University.

He said that the suspects were involved in wanton killing and maiming of innocent victims in Agbowo and other parts of Ibadan.

Odude added that they allegedly attacked one Amos Oluwaseun last month and robbed him of his phones and ATM cards.

He said, “The gang later used the ATM cards to steal the sum of N318, 000 from the victim’s GTB account. The suspects were eventually arrested on May 18th and they have confessed to the crime.”

The police also arrested another suspected member of the confraternity. He was identified as Dayo Adegoke, 43.
