The police in Delta have arrested three suspected criminals and recovered two pump-action guns with seven live cartridges during a stop-and-search operation at the Head Bridge in Asaba, the boundary between Delta and Anambra states.
The suspects were intercepted by the Command’s Buffalo Patrol Team on Tuesday evening while travelling in a black Toyota Land Cruiser Jeep with registration number ABJ 254 CD.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Bright Edafe, the operation took place on May 6, 2026, at about 7:06 p.m. during a strategic patrol aimed at checking criminal activities and the movement of illegal arms across the state.
Edafe identified the suspects as Chukwu Emeka Okeke, 30; Ndudo Tochukwu, 37; and Oraka Kaosiso Chukwu, 34.
He said the patrol team stopped the vehicle for routine checks but became suspicious during interrogation, prompting a thorough search of the SUV.
“The operatives carried out a detailed search of the vehicle, during which two pump-action guns and seven rounds of live cartridges were recovered,” the statement said.
The suspects were immediately arrested and taken into custody, while the recovered weapons were secured as exhibits.
Police authorities disclosed that investigations are ongoing to determine the mission of the suspects and whether they are linked to any criminal network operating within or outside the state.
Commending the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and proactive crime prevention strategies.
He stressed that the Command would continue to intensify efforts aimed at intercepting illegal arms and dismantling criminal operations across Delta State.
