Police Nab Suspected Kidnappers who Killed Varsity Don and a Nigerian Dream

A gang of suspected kidnappers, who killed one of the brains set to launch Nigeria into the new age of artificial intelligence, has been smashed by the police.
Police authorities told NewsmakersNG today that 14 suspected kidnappers and armed robbers linked to the March 11, 2017 murder of Dr Ibrahim Mailafia have been nabbed.
It was sunset at dawn for the university Don who was killed along Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Expressway on his return from the United Kingdom where he had just bagged a doctorate degree in artificial intelligence.
Artificial Intelligence is the theory and development of computer systems able to perform tasks normally requiring human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and translation between languages.
Dr Mailafia was a Senior lecturer with the Nasarawa State University Lafia.
Officers told NewsmakersNG that two AK47 rifles loaded with ammunition, a barreta pistol and the victim’s iPhone handset were recovered from the gang.

According to the police, members of the gang were arrested in Kaduna and Zaria and receivers of some cars they have stolen were also arrested.

Names of the suspects were listed as: Sunday Jatau, a 35-year-old native of Kaduna State and leader of the gang who confessed to have personally shot and killed Dr Mailafia; Solomon Jatau, 40, a brother to the gang leader; Ayuba Jatau, 32, also a younger brother to the gang leader; Ishaku Luka aka Dogo who allegedly sells arms and ammunition to the gang, a 42-year-old native of Kujama LGA Kaduna; Bature Adamu, 38; Bello Abdullahi 32; Mamuda Mohammed 27; Ibrahim Daniel, a 27-year-old native of Chad Republic who was found in possession of the late Dr Mailafia’s phones; Emmanuel Garba, a 27-year-old native of Ekot-Ekpene in Akwa Ibom State; Alhaji Usman Mohammed, 35, identified as a receiver of their stolen goods; Alhaji Ibrahim Baba, 49, another receiver, as well as Bello Aliyu, 36, Surajo Mohammed, 35; Hassan Ibrahim, 55.

The gang was smashed by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), supported by the Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU) following a mandate from the Inspector General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris.
