LAGOS — A routine police patrol in Lagos has led to the arrest of a 29-year-old suspected armed robber after officers intercepted three men riding on a motorcycle in the Igando area of the state.
The Lagos State Police Command said the patrol team became suspicious of the trio after observing their conduct and moved to intercept them.
But on sighting the officers, the three men allegedly attempted to escape, triggering a pursuit that ended with the arrest of one of them, identified by police as Olajunja Segun Samson, 29.
His two alleged accomplices escaped, abandoning the motorcycle at the scene.
Police said a subsequent search of the suspect and the abandoned motorcycle uncovered a locally fabricated pistol and assorted charms, which were taken into custody as exhibits.
Samson is currently being detained while detectives intensify efforts to track down the two fleeing suspects. Investigation is also ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the recovered firearm and determine whether the suspects are linked to other crimes in Lagos.
The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Tijani Fatai, commended the patrol officers for their vigilance and professionalism, saying the operation reflected the Command’s determination to combat violent crime across the state.
He reassured residents that the police would continue to strengthen crime-prevention operations and urged members of the public to provide timely and credible information capable of helping officers identify and apprehend criminal elements.
