Two namesake suspects, Lekan, are in Ogun State police custody: One for Grave Robbery in Abeokuta, the other for Shop Theft in Ogijo.

The police in Ogun State told NewsmakersNG that a suspected ritualist, identified as Lekan Akinyemi, was found in possession of a human head, and another suspect, Lekan Babatunde, was arrested for burglary in Ogijo.

According to a situation report from Adatan Divisional Police Headquarters in Ogun State, Akinyemi was caught desecrating a grave in Isale Itoko, Abeokuta.

The police spokesperson in Ogun State, SP Omolola Odutola, told NewsmakersNG that the incident came to light on June 24, 2024, when Nojeem Balogun reported to the police that unusual activities had been observed at his late father’s grave. Balogun, residing in Iyana Cele Car Wash, Abeokuta, was alerted by a sibling on June 23, 2024, about the disturbance.

Upon inspection, they discovered that their father’s head had been removed by an unidentified individual or group.

Odutola said that swift police action led to the arrest of Lekan Akinyemi, who was reportedly seen severing the head from the grave.

“The suspect is currently in custody and the case will be transferred to the Anti-Robbery Unit for further investigation before being handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID),” Odutola stated.

In another incident, officers at the Ogijo Division arrested one Olalekan Babatunde, aged 29, in connection with a shop-breaking and stealing case.

Odutola disclosed in a statement that on June 23, 2024, at about 7:50pm, a resident of Alaba Sloppy reported that his shop in the Oke-Oko area of Ogijo had been broken into, with items valued at N729,000 stolen, including an HP laptop, a generator, a gas cylinder, and an MP3 player.

Odutola stated: “Following the report, detectives acted swiftly and apprehended Babatunde, who subsequently confessed to the crime.

“Investigations are ongoing, and the suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.”

These incidents highlight the diligent efforts of the police in combating crime and ensuring justice is served in the community.
