A suspected gangster described as a terror in Katsina State has been killed by the police after he allegedly shot an officer and set a station ablaze.
According to the police, the suspect identified as 35-year-old Kane Mohd, alias ‘Dan Mai-Keke’, confronted officers on a raid of a criminal hideout at Old Market Division in Bakori area of Katsina State and injured one Police Constable (PC) Sa’idu Usaini.
NewsmakersNG learnt from the state police spokesman, SP Gambo Isah, that the police patrol team was led on January 4 by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Bakori Division, at about 9p.m when they were allegedly attacked by the suspect who was also described as “a notorious gang leader of Kauraye (otherwise known as social miscreants) and a suspected king-pin of armed robbers, who has been on the police wanted list of criminals terrorizing Bakori and Funtua axis”.
Isah revealed in a statement: “The hoodlum armed with dangerous weapon inflicted serious injury on Force No. 510672, Police Constable (PC) Sa’idu Usaini and went on a rampage at Township village outpost, Bakori, where after dispersing the two available unarmed policemen, set it ablaze. Even with the timely arrival of the DPO and his team, the hoodlum engaged them in a fierce physical confrontation and was shot down while trying to disarm one of the Police Patrol Team members. Subsequently, Police Constable Sa’idu Usaini and the suspect were taken to Bakori General Hospital for treatment. The former was admitted and is responding to treatment while the later died while receiving treatment. Investigation is ongoing.”
