The Nigeria Police Force today held a colourful Pull-Out Parade at the Force Headquarters in Abuja in honour of the immediate past Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, marking the formal end of his 36-year career in the Force.
Egbetokun retired from active service on February 25, 2026, after more than three decades of policing and leadership within the Nigeria Police Force.
The ceremony, attended by top security chiefs, government officials and traditional rulers, celebrated the former police boss for what officers described as a career defined by professionalism, discipline and commitment to institutional reforms.
Speaking at the event, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, described the pull-out parade as a symbolic moment in the history of the Force, noting that Egbetokun’s tenure left enduring reforms aimed at strengthening policing operations across the country.

Disu said the retired police chief played a key role in improving operational efficiency and advancing intelligence-led policing while promoting professionalism, accountability and discipline within the Force.
“His career was defined by dedication, professionalism and exemplary leadership. On behalf of the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, we express our profound appreciation for his outstanding service and invaluable contributions to policing in Nigeria,” the IGP said.

In his farewell remarks, Egbetokun thanked the Federal Government and the Nigeria Police Force for the opportunity to serve the nation for 36 years.
Reflecting on his time as IGP, he said deliberate steps were taken to strengthen institutional structures, expand operational capabilities and deepen professionalism across the Force.
Among the key reforms he highlighted were the expansion of the Police Intelligence Bureau into a full department, the elevation of the Legal and Medical Units to directorate status, and the development of the Nigeria Police Cybercrime Centre.
He also cited improvements to the National Criminal Database and the establishment of additional Police Mobile Force squadrons, Area Commands and the Special Intervention Squad as part of efforts to strengthen the operational capacity of the Force.
The ceremony attracted several dignitaries including the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu; Chairman of the House Committee on Police Affairs, Abubakar Yellman, represented by Kama Nkemkanma; Director-General of the Department of State Services, Oluwatosin Ajayi; and Chairman of the Police Service Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (retd).

Also present were former Inspectors-General of Police – Sir Mike Okiro and Ogbonna Onovo, heads of security agencies, senior police officers and traditional rulers led by the Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle.
The pull-out parade is a long-standing police tradition that formally marks the retirement of a serving Inspector-General after completing their tenure at the helm of the Force.
