Efforts by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Ibrahim Idris, to track bandits who recently killed four policemen and two soldiers in Ikorodu, Lagos, have paid off.
Newsmakersng learnt that the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT) led by ACP Abba Kyari, on Sunday, nailed a member of the gang, when he came out of hiding in the creek.
According to the police, one of the suspects identified as Endurance Ominisan aka Mighty, a native of Arogbo in Ondo State, came out from the creek to see his girlfriend in a house he rented for her at 20 Joel Adebolu Street, in Ibeshe, Ikorodu.
“The IRT team immediately swooped on him and surrounded the house,” Newsmakersng was told. “On sighting the IRT team, the kidnapper escaped into the roof of the house from where he fired several shots with his pistol on the IRT men, who swiftly returned fire and fatally wounded him.
“The injured kidnapper was eventually brought down from the roof of the house and rushed to the General Hospital in Ikorodu, where he later died.”
Before his death, the suspect allegedly mentioned other gang members called ‘America’, ‘Stone’, and ‘Vika’, who participated in the killing of the policemen and soldiers on April 9, 2017.
He also allegedly confessed to his participation in the kidnap of Oniba of Iba, Turkish school girls and many other kidnappings in Lagos and Ogun before he died. One Turkish made Fatih 13 Pistol marked 12TF00126 with four expended and five live ammunition were recovered from him.
The police said serious efforts were on to arrest other members of the gang at large.
