Two cattle-rearing bandits have been shot dead in Kaduna and hundreds of livestock recovered, after a shootout with the police.
According to the Commander of the Inspector-General of Police’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Mr Abba Kyari, 413 stolen cows and 50 sheep were recovered from the bandits in Kagarko bush, along with one locally-made AK47 Rifle.
The police told NewsmakersNG in a statement: “On the 27/11/17 at about 0200hrs, IRT operatives on Operation Absolute Sanity along Abuja-Kaduna expressway engaged some armed robbers moving with hundreds of stolen cows. During the fierce gun battle, two of the armed robbers met their Waterloo as others fled and abandoned 413 stolen cows and 5O sheep.
“The cows and sheep were moved to Katari Town where the following owners came to identify their stolen cows as follows: 1) Idi Ibrahim 71 Cows, 2) Abdullah Sani 45 Cows, 3) Ibrahim Mohd 13 Cows, 4) Adamu Lawal 21 Cows & 26 sheep, 5) Suleiman Sa’idu 33 Cows & 2 Sheep, 6) Hamisu Ya’u 8 Cows, 7) Musa Sani 65 Cows 13 sheep, 8) Alhaji Sale Sani 60 Cows, 9) Alh. Rumi 17 Cows, 10) Yakubu Katafila 2 Cows, 11) Yusuf Muhammad 2 Cows.”
NewsmakersNG learnt that 76 cows and nine sheep remain unclaimed.
Police say efforts are on to arrest other members of the gang.
