The police in Zamfara have secured the release of 11 more victims abducted in Kaura Namoda and Shinkafi Local Government Areas of the state after spending two months in captivity.
The police spokesman in Zamfara, SP Mohammed Shehu, disclosed in a statement today that “the Zamfara State Police Command in Collaboration with the State Government has secured the release of 11 more abductees through the government’s peace initiative being perfected by the Commissioner of Police CP Usman Nagogo psc+. The victims who were held captive for more than two months were secured release by the Commissioner of Police today being 7th July, 2019”.
Shehu recalled that last week about 40 Fulani and Hausa abductees were freed by the Commissioner of Police. They were later handed over to the state governor, Dr Muhammad Bello Matawalle Maradun.
While handing over the victims to the governor, CP Nagogo assured him that the police being the lead agency in internal security would continue to discharge its constitutional responsibility to rid the state of all criminal activities.
In his response, Governor Bello Matawalle expressed appreciation to the CP over what he described as his commitment to ensure the restoration of peace in the state and wished that with the way things are going, peace would soon be realized.
“Zamfara State is relatively peaceful as attacks, kidnapping and other heinous crimes have reduced drastically. The Command will sustain its collaboration with the government, other security agencies and all public-spirited individual to return the state to its past glory,” Shehu stated.
