Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have foiled a suspected cult attack in the Ijaiye/Ojokoro area of the state, arresting an alleged member of the notorious Eiye Confraternity with a loaded locally made pistol during a stop-and-search operation.

The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Yusuf Lamina Adigun, was caught after police intercepted a commercial motorcycle conveying three passengers as part of routine security patrols aimed at curbing violent crime across Lagos.

According to the Police, a search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of a locally made pistol loaded with one live cartridge.

During preliminary interrogation, Adigun allegedly confessed to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity and revealed that he and other members of the cult group, who escaped arrest, were on their way to carry out an attack on some individuals before they were intercepted by the police.

The Lagos State Police Command said the suspect is currently in custody while intensive efforts are underway to track down the fleeing gang members and recover additional weapons believed to be in their possession.

He assured residents that the Command would continue to intensify surveillance, stop-and-search operations and other preventive policing strategies to ensure the safety of lives and property.

The police chief also appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely and credible information that could help prevent crime and facilitate the arrest of criminal elements.

The arrest is the latest in a series of operations by the Lagos State Police Command targeting cultism, armed violence and other organised crimes across the state.
