Detectives on special assignment at the Nigeria-Benin Republic Border have smashed a car-snatching gang with a ‘fool-proof’ way of concealing arms.

Police today released the underneath video showing two leaders of the gang dismantling and coupling the motorcycle seat where they kept arms and ammunition.

According to the police, five of the cross-border bandits were arrested. They comprised of two Nigerians and three citizens of Republic of Benin.

Police told NewsmakersNG that the alleged bandits specialized in snatching cars at the border and selling them in Benin Republic.

The police uncovered how the gang concealed AK47 rifle under the seat of their operational motorcycle.

NewmakersNG learnt that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris deployed the detectives to the border area following several complaints of car snatching within Lagos and Ogun borders.

Intelligence shared between the Special Intelligence Response Team (IRT) and officers led to the arrest of the bandits on June 22, after two weeks of unrelenting follow up.

The arrested suspects were identified as: Femi Adegbile, 29, from Ologuneru area of Oyo State; John Ajayi, 41, a native of Benin Republic; Ajayi Kamoru, 47, a native of Benin Republic; Emil Goduo, 34, a native of Benin Republic and Saheed Shosanya, 27, a native of Odeda area of Ogun State.

The police listed items recovered from the gang as a blue motorcycle with AK47 rifle hidden under the seat and two magazines fully loaded with 60 rounds of live ammunition.

Police told NewsmakersNG that the suspects had confessed to multiple car snatchings and many armed robberies along the Nigeria/Benin border while disguising as normal commercial motorbike riders.
