Police authorities in Lagos have dismissed nine officers for various offences in the last four months.
This is contained in a statement today by the Lagos police spokesman, SP Chike Oti.
The statement reveals that 25 officers were also punished with a reduction in their respective ranks, while 60 others received queries.
NewsmakersNG learned that the action taken against the erring policemen was in line with the desire of the commissioner of police, Mr Imohimi Edgal, to rid the command of corruption and indiscipline.
The statement reads: “In keeping with the promise the commissioner of police made to the good people of Lagos State on assumption of office that there will be no room for corruption and indiscipline among police officers under his watch, the Lagos State Police Command hereby releases to the general public the breakdown in figures of police personnel punished for various disciplinary offences between the months of September and December 2017.
“Nine officers were dismissed for offences ranging from discreditable conduct, corrupt practice, disobedience to lawful order and peddling falsehood.
“Another 25 were punished with reduction in rank for offences ranging from gross insubordination, drunkenness, incivility to members of the public and abandoning their beats.
“Also a total of 60 Inspectors and rank and files were punished with major and minor entries.”
“The Commissioner of Police said the punishments handed down to the unruly officers should serve as deterrent to others who may wish to toe the path of ignominy.”
