Police on Tuesday evening said popular singer Burna Boy, who is wanted for armed robbery, has been evading arrest.

The Lagos State Police Command had on Monday said Burna Boy, whose real name is Damini Ogulu, was wanted for questioning.

Acting police commissioner, Mr. Imohimi Edgal, told journalists that Burna Boy conspired with five others to rob fellow singer, Abinye Jumbo, popularly known as Mr. 2Kay, on October 22.

Edgal had further disclosed: “About 2am, someone knocked on the door of Mr. 2Kay’s room and introduced himself as a room service official from the reception. Mr. 2Kay opened the door and four men entered with a gun. They robbed him of his Audemais Piquet gold wristwatch valued at $25,000; jewellery valued at N1.5m; an iPhone 7 valued at N380,000, a Samsung Galaxy S7 valued at N240,000, Samsung Galaxy S5 worth N110,000; Addidas shoes valued at N75,000; three bottles of perfume worth N180,000 and N45,000 cash”

The police said the other five suspects had been arrested but efforts to arrest Burna Boy had been abortive.

Spokesman for the command, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, said in statement that Burna Boy’s father, Samuel Ogulu, visited the command headquarters on Tuesday and promised to ensure the artiste honours the police invitation.

Famous-Cole, nonetheless, advised Burna Boy to voluntarily surrender himself for questioning.

The statement by the police reads: “The Lagos state Police Command will like to inform members of the public that Damini Ogulu a.k.a ‘Burna Boy’ is yet to report himself to the police and is still on the run contrary to reports making the rounds on social media that the musician has honoured police invitation.

“The command will also like to inform the public that only Burna Boy’s father, one Samuel Ogulu, visited the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) in-charge of the case with the promise to bring Burna Boy before the police.

“The command is however using this medium to urge Burna Boy’s father and relatives to do right by bringing the musician to the police before the long arm of the law catches up with him. The command assures that justice will be done.”
