Police authorities in Ogun have launched a manhunt for members of OPC and Aye Cult who engaged in a clash that claimed the lives of three citizens and a police inspector at Ijebu-Igbo.
According to Ogun State police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, officers have broken into the enclaves of the two groups where 29 suspects were arrested and a pump action gun with one locally made pistol was recovered.
Oyeyemi told NewsmakersNG in a statement: “The combing of the various hideout of the hoodlums is in progress and as at this morning, five more suspects have been arrested with pump action gun, two locally made pistols 10 live cartridges and assorted charms.
“The command hereby assure members of the public of their security and advice them to go about their lawful business without fear of harassment or intimidation from any quarter. The command is resolute in its determination to bring to book all those who are directly or indirectly linked to the fracas no matter how highly placed such persons may be; and while we are doing that, no innocent person will be unjustly punished.”
Oyeyemi added that the commissioner of police (CP), Mr Ahmed Iliyasu, had ordered 24-hour surveillance patrol of the town and it’s environs.
He further stated that the CP had “equally directed that the Area Commander in Ijebu Ode should be coordinating the police operation in the town. The CP gave the directive when he visited the troubled town today for on the spot assessment of the town”.
