Like an animal killed for its hide, two men in Ogun State were found to have killed their neighbour just to steal his Bajaj motorbike.

Ogun State police spokesman, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi identified the suspects as Patrick Udom, 35, from Akwa-Ibom State and James Roland 25, from Delta State.

He said that they were arrested following a complaint by the elder brother of the victim, one Moses Utuede, who reported at Obalende Divisional Headquarters that his brother named Happy Patrick left home around 7:00am on May 15 and was yet to return with his motorcycle.

The victim’s body in a police van.

Oyeyemi stated: “On the strength of the report, the DPO, SP Jaiye Richard, detailed detectives to embark on full scale investigation in order to unravel the mystery behind the sudden disappearance of the victim. Investigations later revealed that the victim was last seen with Patrick Udom and he was promptly arrested.

“After a thorough investigation, the said Patrick Udom confessed to have killed the victim ably assisted by Roland James. He stated further that the victim who lived in the same community of Imodi-Imosan with them was killed because they wanted to steal his motorcycle which they actually did after killing their victim.

Weapons allegedly used by the suspected killers.

“The body of the deceased, which was concealed in a sack and thrown in a nearby bush has been recovered. Also recovered from them are the two cutlasses used to kill the deceased, one hammer and a digger.”

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Ahmed Iliyasu has ordered that the case be transferred to Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department for discrete investigation and prosecution of the suspects.
