A Lance Corporal in the Nigerian army, Victor Chukwunonso, was arrested in Lagos, today, over allegations he is an accomplice of notorious kidnapper, Chukwudubem Onwumadike, aka Evans.
Sources said Evans had linked the army corporal with some of his gang’s operations in his confessional statement.
The soldier, who is attached to the Army Band Corps, based in Abalti Barracks, Surulere, Lagos was arrested by men of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the police, around 9am, in Ojo area.
Chukwunonso, who is a native of Onitsha, Anambra State, has allegedly confessed to his involvement with Evans and his gang.
According to sources, the suspect admitted to taking part in three of the gang’s operations in Lagos, from which he received a total sum of N6.5 million.
A picture of the suspect obtained by Newsmakers showed him in handcuffs, in his army uniform.
Both the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Moshood Jimoh and commander of the IRT, Abba Kyari, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, could not be reached for confirmation of the development.
