The Lagos State Police Command has arrested officers involved in a fatal shooting incident in the Alagbado area of Lagos, with authorities promising a full investigation and accountability.

The incident occurred on Friday in Alagbado, a densely populated suburb along the Lagos–Ogun boundary, where police officers reportedly opened fire during an operation in the area.

Early reports from residents indicated that the shooting left two civilians dead, sparking tension within the community.

Police authorities later confirmed that the officers involved had been taken into custody.

In a statement shared on X, the spokesperson for the command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said:
“The officers involved in the unfortunate shooting incident that occurred today in Alagbado have been arrested and taken into custody.

“The Commissioner of Police has ordered a thorough and intensive investigation into the incident, as well as the adequate deployment of personnel to forestall any breakdown of law and order. Normalcy has been restored to the area.

“The Command assures the good people of Lagos State that justice will be served and the outcome of the investigation will be made public in due course.”

According to residents and preliminary reports, the shooting happened during a police operation targeting suspected internet fraudsters in the area.

Witnesses claimed that two passers-by were struck by gunfire during the incident.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims, and the exact sequence of events leading to the shooting remains under investigation.

Community members said the area quickly became tense after news of the shooting spread, prompting police to reinforce security presence.

Police said calm has since returned to the neighbourhood while investigators work to determine responsibility.

The Lagos command said the findings of the investigation would be made public once the process is concluded.
