Police Arrest Lagos Lawyer for Stabbing Maid

Police today arrested a female lawyer for allegedly stabbing her 15-year-old housemaid on the head.

According to the police, the Lagos-based lawyer, Tolu Olaoye, engages in incessant physical abuse of the victim, Abigail Opebiyi.

She allegedly inflicted a deep cut on the maid’s forehead with an unknown object during the latest round of abuse.

Police spokesman, SP Chike Oti, said the development prompted the intervention of the police and the subsequent arrest of the culprit.

The suspect is being detained at the command headquarters in Ikeja and would be charged to court on Monday.

Oti said the victim has been put temporarily in the care of the gender section of the state police command and currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

A statement by Oti reads: “The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Mr. Edgal Imohimi, has arrested one Tolu Olaoye, of 5 El Shaddai Crescent, Baruwa, Ipaja, Lagos, a lawyer, over incessant abuse of her house help, one Abigail Opebiyi,15 years old.

“The CP Lagos, known for his prompt actions on all issues concerning domestic violence and abuse, was moved with compassion on seeing the picture of the victim trending on the internet with a deep cut on her forehead, which was allegedly inflicted on her by the said female lawyer, Tolu Olaoye.

“He immediately ordered operatives of the command to go and rescue the victim and fish out the suspect. This order was carried out diligently and the suspect is now undergoing interrogation at the gender section of state police command. The suspect would be charged to court on Monday.”
