Four herdsmen linked to the recent killing of policemen in Benue State have been captured by the police.
The suspected leader of the gang, identified as Alhaji Laggi, 40, was unmasked today by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of operations, Mr Joshak Habila in Makurdi, Benue State.
The suspects were caught in Tunga town, Nasarawa State, after a 3-week hunt by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) led by ACP Abba Kyari in a special operation coordinated by Mr Habila.
Since the officers were killed in Benue, the police had been on the trail of the herdsmen who were armed with AK47 rifles and other prohibited arms.
Other suspects in police net were identified as Mallam Mumini Abdullahi, 34; Muhammed Adamu, 30, and Ibrahim Sule, 32.
According to the police, the suspects have confessed to the murder of Sgt Solomon Dung and other officers, as well as some citizens in Benue.
They also allegedly confessed to having stolen police rifles still in their custody.
The hunt for the suspects commenced three weeks ago, following the directive of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Ibrahim Idris.
