Police in Yobe have arrested two principal suspects, aged 12 and 14 for kidnapping a three-year-old boy in Potiskum and collecting ransom.

Public Relations Officer of the state police command, ASP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement yesterday in Damaturu.

“The victim, aged three, was kidnapped; and later released by his assailants after they collected N50,000 ransom. The police apprehended two principal suspects. The first one is 14-year-old; while the second suspect is aged 12. The third suspect is on the run,” the statement reads.

He said the police have begun an investigation into the matter; and efforts are being made to arrest the fleeing suspect.

In another development, Abdulkarim said on October 1, at about 7am; one Nafisa Saleh was reported to have been abducted on her way to the specialist hospital Damaturu, for antenatal.

According to him, investigation later revealed that the victim, turned was the mastermind of her own abduction, in order to collect ransom from her husband and family members.

The statement says two suspects, Goni Modu and Umar Mai Gudusu, both of Dadinge Village, Gujba Local Government Area, have been arrested in connection with the crime.
