Chamberlain Squash Open Debuts on Sunday

Up to $12,000 is up for grabs at the male category of the Chamberlain Squash Open (CSO) starting on Sunday, August 20, at the Lagos Country Club.

According to the organizers, winners in the male category will take home $12,000. The prize money for the female category has not been announced.

The week long tournament will open with 16 qualifying rounds on Sunday and eight qualifying finals on Monday, August 21.

It will feature 56 squash players in both male and female categories from Nigeria, United Kingdom, Zambia, and other parts of the world.

There will be eight main draws on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Eight quarter finals will take place on August 24 and four semi finals on August 25.

The grand finale and exhibition comes up on August 26.

CSO is out to promote and develop the sport amongst the youth and bring up a new generation of players that will represent the country at the national and international levels.

The CSO promoter, Mr. Chamberlain Usoh, said, “The tournament provides the squash community the opportunity to appreciate the power of sports, especially in the area of bringing people together and cementing the blocks of unity, regardless of their ethnic, social and political affiliations but in the true spirit of social responsibility.”

The president of Nigeria Squash Federation (NSF), Mr. Boye Oyerinde, described Squash as the most beautiful game in the world and urged the Nigerian media to help promote its awareness.
