Photos: Scores Feared Dead as Gunmen Attack Ondo Church

Some unknown gunmen have attacked St. Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa Street, in Owo town, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, killing scores of worshippers.

Several children were among those killed by the gunmen, who also reportedly detonated several explosives.

Some online videos and photos of the incident, which are too gory to be published, show dead bodies littering the church auditorium, some with their heads blown of.

NewsmakersNG learnt the gunmen stormed the church premises while the mass was going on.

An eyewitness said the incident caused pandemonium in the area as residents in the neighborhood of the church ran for safety.

Another witness claimed it was some herdsmen that attacked the church and killed worshippers.

A BBC Yoruba reporter, who visited the scene, saw several dead bodies being evacuated from the church premises.

The reporter also said fresh human blood were splattered all over the premises and auditorium.

Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, said the command was yet to ascertain the cause the incident.

She said the Commissioner of Police was on his way to the scene to ascertain the cause of the incident.
