Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, on Wednesday held separate meetings with representatives of several diplomatic missions in Abuja, including the British High Commissioner, as well as envoys from Germany, Canada, and France.
The engagements came a day after the African Democratic Congress (ADC), to which Obi now belongs, successfully concluded its national convention in Abuja, a development that has continued to generate political discussion within Nigeria’s opposition space.
Photographs from the meetings showed Obi in discussions with the diplomats in what appeared to be a series of courtesy and engagement visits focused on governance, democracy, and Nigeria’s political and economic outlook.
While details of the discussions were not immediately disclosed, the meetings are understood to be part of Obi’s ongoing engagements with international stakeholders following the 2023 general elections, where he emerged as one of the leading contenders.
Diplomatic engagements of this nature are often used by political actors and public figures to exchange views on democratic governance, investment climate, and institutional stability.
The timing of the meetings, coming shortly after the ADC national convention in Abuja, has also drawn attention within political circles, as realignments and consultations continue ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
Neither Obi nor the diplomatic missions involved have issued detailed public statements on the outcomes of the meetings at the time of filing this report.
