The body of Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, was brought into the open square (Aganju forecourt) of the palace grounds for a brief moment as Islamic clerics offered prayers for the repose of the soul of the foremost Yoruba traditional ruler.
The Chief Imam Of Oyo State, Masud Ajokidero, led other members of the Oyo State League of Imams in the prayer.
The body was thereafter carried back into the inner recess of the palace from where it will be taken to Bara, the traditional burial place of Alaafins, for interment.
NewsmakersNG learnt that the traditional rites of passage had earlier been conducted at about 7am.
The Oyomesi (Oyo traditional council) had earlier announced that the remains of Oba Adeyemi would be buried today according to Islamic rites.
