The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has circulated a photograph showing the remains of Brigadier General M. Uba in a publication of the global Islamic State network, confirming his killing.

According to a report by FIJ, the image was included in Issue 522 of Al-Naba, the Islamic State’s weekly newspaper, released on Thursday.

The group, which serves as the umbrella organisation for terror franchises including ISIS and ISWAP, published the latest edition as an eight-page downloadable PDF file written in Arabic.

On the cover page, Uba’s lifeless body is displayed, and the same image appears again on page four.

The publication reportedly went live at about 3.30pm West Africa Time.

The photograph shows the top military officer with a bullet wound to his leg and blood visible near his head.

ISWAP also released what appears to be a screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation allegedly retrieved from Uba’s phone, suggesting they gained access to his personal correspondence with military contacts and others.

The terror group further claimed responsibility for an attack on the Damboa Brigade Headquarters in Borno on Tuesday and shared a disturbing image purporting to show the beheading of a man in Gorobatcha within the same state.

Newsmakerslive.org earlier reported that Uba was patrolling with his troops and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force near Sabon Gari in Damboa Local Government Area last Friday when they were ambushed by the terrorists at about 5pm.

He went missing during the encounter and was subsequently captured by the terrorists.
