Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested two Boko Haram Terrorists in connection with last Tuesday’s explosion in Sabon Gari area of Kano.
A third suspect is said to be on the run.
The breakthrough by the DSS reportedly followed an intelligence operations to unravel the real cause of the explosion which claimed nine lives and injured several others, including pupils of a nearby private nursery and primary school.
Police had earlier claimed that the explosion was caused by an industrial gas cylinder used at a welding workshop in the area.
Preliminary investigation by the police later uncovered some flammable chemicals at the scene of the explosion.
Some eyewitnesses have also faulted the claim of the police, insisting that the incident was a bomb blast.
Eonsintelligence reported that items recovered from the suspects include four AK-47 riffles, two pistols, suicide vests and IED making materials.
The arrested suspects are said to be from Bauchi and Yobe States.
Investigations further revealed that the suspects had earlier purchased jerricans of liquid chemicals with the receipt indicating the purchase was made around where the blast occured.
This latest development is coming few hours after Governor Nasir Elrufai of Kaduna State announced that Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) have taken over two local government areas in the state.
