There were reports of widespread violence in the ongoing Governorship and Kogi West Senatorial District rerun elections in Kogi State.

Two persons were reportedly killed in the outbreak of violence at the polling unit where the Peoples Democratic Party’s senatorial candidate, Dino Melaye, cast his vote in Ijumu Local Government Area.

Four suspects were reportedly arrested by the police during the incident.

Suspected thugs have also been sighted around the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Lokoja, the state capital, with reports of gunshots being in the vicinity.

The situation has reportedly forced some electoral officials and staff of the commission to abandon their offices until there is sufficient guarantee of security.

Armed men in police uniform also attacked Ukwo Okoriko Polling Unit in Koton-Karfi, firing shots and forcing voters and electoral officers to run away.
