Matilda Omonaiye/

A truck being used by suspected vandals to siphon fuel from a petroleum pipeline at Gowon Estate, in Ipaja area of Lagos, exploded this morning.

NewsmakersNG learnt that the truck had already been loaded by the vandals and was leaving the spot when it accidentally made contact with an electric cable which sparked the fire.

The development reportedly threw the area into panic, as firefighters who were called to the scene battled to put out the fire.

Reports say the firefighters eventually succeeded in bringing the situation under control.

NewsmakersNG could not yet confirm if there was any casualty.
