The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticised the Federal Government for lagging in communicating the recent US strike on terrorist targets in Nigeria.

Nigerians reportedly learned of the operation first from verified social media accounts of US President Donald Trump and other American officials, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued only a vague confirmation hours later.

In a statement signed by Comrade Ini Ememobong, PDP National Publicity Secretary, the party said: “This inverted communication approach does not help the Federal Government or Nigerians, especially given reports that the US military has previously operated in Nigeria without our government’s knowledge.”

The PDP called on the Federal Government to ensure that defence agreements with the United States include joint operations, promoting knowledge sharing and allowing Nigeria to fight insecurity sustainably rather than relying on externally-led precision strikes.

The party stressed that timely and proactive communication is essential to keeping Nigerians informed and maintaining trust in national security efforts.
