After kidnapping an 8-year-old girl in Osun, the abductors asked for a ransom of N10million.
They got it and the child was freed.
But the police didn’t let the story end there.
Like a scene from the movies, the kidnappers had cornered Mrs Basirat Ahmed’s Honda Pilot SUV at Dada Estate area in Osogbo on April 14 and seized her 8-year-old daughter, Taiwo Ahmed.
According to the police, the girl was taken to a hideout from where the kidnappers demanded for N10million ransom from the parents who eventually paid to get their daughter back.
Backed by the Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU), the Inspector General of Police’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT), led by ACP Abba Kyari, began to track the suspects.
On April 25, policemen on the trail of the suspected kidnappers tracked and nicked one of them identified as 40-year-old Akin Nureni.
The arrested suspect led IRT operatives to the hideout of other members of the gang.
They, however, didn’t give up without a fight in which a sergeant was shot.
Newsmakersng learnt that at the end of the gun battle a suspect was dead and two other iinjured suspects were arrested. They were identified as: Teslim Ibitoye, 38; Sunday David, 35, and Akeem Ibitoye, who allegedly died from bullet wounds.
The police have identified the sergeant who was shot in the leg as Sani Mohd. They said he had been treated and discharged.
Newsmakersng also learnt that the police recovered the Samsung phone used by the kidnappers while negotiating the ransom.
Officers told Newsmakersng that the police also recovered one Barreta pistol with seven live and four expended ammunition, two single barrel shotguns with 16 live and 9 expended cartridges, facial mask, victims’ jewelry and several charms at the hideout.
The suspects, who are receiving treatment for bullet wounds at the Federal Medical Centre, at Gwagwalada, in Abuja, allegedly confessed to several kidnappings in Osun and Ondo states.
Police say they are still on the trail of other members of the gang.

These guys should be treated as murderers and made to receive the rightful judgement that would be accorded a murderer.
Everyday for the kidnappers, one day for the police
