Sunday Omisakin, an ex-convict recently pardoned by Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has found himself back behind bars just weeks after his release.

Omisakin, who was among those granted state pardon on December 24, 2024, was arrested for allegedly stealing a plasma television worth ₦600,000.

The theft reportedly occurred on January 3, 2025, when Omisakin broke into a house in the Iludun area of Osogbo.

He was arraigned before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Osogbo on two counts of burglary and theft.

According to police prosecutor, Kayode Adeoye, the offences contravened Sections 411(1)(2), 383, and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II, Laws of Osun State, 2002. The charges stated that Omisakin unlawfully entered the home of one Shittu Damilare and stole the plasma TV.

During his initial arraignment on January 7, Omisakin applied for bail. However, Magistrate A. Adeyeba reserved the ruling until January 21.

Yesterday, Adeyeba denied the application and ordered Omisakin’s remand at the Ilesa Correctional Centre.

Omisakin was listed as number 8 among the beneficiaries of Governor Adeleke’s December pardon, a gesture that marked the festive season.

His re-arrest has sparked questions about the rehabilitation and reintegration of pardoned convicts into society.
