The Patriotism Awareness Forum (PAF) has expressed deep sadness and condemnation over the widespread destruction and violence that marked the first day of the nationwide guerilla protests. The demonstrations, deceptively labeled #Endbadgovernance, have led to significant damage to both public and private properties, as well as tragic loss of lives and injuries among civilians and security personnel.
In a press statement released today, PAF convener Nelson Ekujumi and co-convener Peter Claver Oparah described the protests as insurrectionist and anarchic, criticizing the organizers for their clandestine operations and violent outcomes. The forum highlighted that despite prior warnings from security agencies and government appeals for peaceful dialogue, the organizers remained hidden, revealing their ulterior motives.
“The protest has inflicted immense pain, sorrow, and bloodshed on suffering Nigerians,” the statement read. “Businesses have been disrupted, lives cut short, and fundamental human rights violated—all under the guise of advocating for the people’s interests.”
PAF noted that the violence was particularly severe in certain northern states, where attacks on individuals, businesses, and public entities were rampant. Despite these disruptions, the forum praised the majority of Nigerians for rejecting the protests and maintaining peace.
The statement also commended the security agencies for their professionalism in managing the unrest and urged them to continue their disciplined approach. PAF called on the authorities to thoroughly investigate the violence and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Concluding with a plea for patience and resilience, PAF encouraged Nigerians to support the government’s ongoing efforts to address the country’s economic challenges.
“We are optimistic that the government’s tireless efforts to re-engineer the Nigerian state will soon yield a better, peaceful, and prosperous nation.
PAF’s message to Nigerians was clear: “Shun the protest and any attempts to incite further destruction. Remain calm, unprovoked, and continue to uphold your lawful pursuits,” PAF stated.
